Protect your brand
August 12, 2011 by Greg Hassold

Amadio Wines recently suffered from “copycat” labelling at the hands of a Chinese printer.

(see the article “Winemaker seeing red” in The Advertiser, Wednesday, 3 August 2011)

How does this happen?
“Copycat labelling in China is certainly not a new thing. There has even been a Chinese “Benfolds” wine, with the brand written on the label in a very familiar red script. Labelling laws in China are not nearly as stringent as those in Australia, Europe or elsewhere. When enquiries were made regarding Chinese wines labelled “1994″ and “1995″ recently, the response was, “It is not the vintage, it is the brand.” When there are no laws to govern such things, there are no assurances for the customer.”
