It’s been a pleasure to work with Immanuel for the past 50 years, these kinds of relationships are GOLD.
We are grateful for our many long term business relationships with clients, suppliers and employees. One of the more exemplary cases of this is our 50 year relationship with Immanuel College, Novar Gardens, making this our Golden Anniversary!
It is just as apt that our longest serving team member David Sweeney, who is also our history book expert, has been the Account Manager for the production of the Immanuel College Yearbook for many years.
David is an Old Scholar of Immanuel, and after completing his education there began working for Openbook Publishers, which led to 45 years of continuous dedicated service to the company.
David retired at the end of 2017 making it the perfect time to share this story.
Openbook Howden (OBH) first printed Echo in 1967, when the company was known as The Lutheran Publishing House.
Back then the publication was a humble saddle stitched (stapled), black and white, B5 sized booklet, put together by students.
50 years on and Echo is now a 252 page publication, printed full colour throughout on 113gsm satin stock, A4 in size and with a print run of approximately 800 copies. The binding is burst bound, which means it has a square spine and the cover has a clear gloss protective laminate which finishes the yearbook with a beautiful high sheen.
This relationship has seen OBH produce 44 of the 50 yearbook issues over the last 50 years.
Echo has evolved significantly over the years in synergy with Immanuel College and the progressive growth of OBH.
As the college grew and the significance of yearbooks across all schools developed, so too did Echo. There have been many changes over the past 50 years, namely the size, paper used, the introduction of colour, the binding, the number of pages and the artwork and printing processes.
Each year Immanuel College collates all the content and undertakes the design and layout, which can be a long yet rewarding process. Once all of the artwork is complete and ready for print, OBH receives the files, assesses which photos require colour correction and provides a proof. The files are then prepared for print, with the yearbook being offset printed and bound.
Echo is produced at the completion of the school year and is delivered the following year. This enables the college to showcase a comprehensive snapshot of life at the college throughout that year including students work and achievements, special events, results and awards which are revealed right at the end of the year.
Echo is a bright, vibrant, and very classy publication, orderly in design, with easy to read fonts and generous white space drawing the reader to the content.
A successful client-supplier relationship is more of a partnership. With Immanuel, this partnership is one of open, honest and regular communication, which begins well before the publication and continues after its completion.
