Turbulent political times in South Australia and a remarkable railroading dog.
There are two parts to this book, named after Bob the Railway Dog.
Part One is a social history of South Australia and its Railways Department in the 1880s and 1890s. It was a time of political and economic turbulence.
Part Two is a collection of newspaper items and other records relating to Bob and written by those who knew him.
Bob’s story mingles hard facts with “verifiable nonsense”, and there is also the mythology of things that we will never know.
The Appendix contains a melange of items that may be of interest and bring a chuckle. But this book is about Bob. He was a very special dog.
