The Art of the Doorknocker
This book provides a complete analysis of the role of Archibald Kenrick & Sons in door knockers for more than 100 years.
Following an historical introduction are accounts of door knocker creation and restoration and a catalogue of all designs used by Kenrick. Thirty pages illustrate mythological origins, 70 digitally photographed and life-size examples from my collection, 100 pages of knockers from contemporary foundries of Coalbrookdale, Bullock, Izons, Barnes and Clarke and 20 pages of Bedroom door knockers from the 1920’s.
In short, here in one book, is all you ever wanted to know and love about that ubiquitous embellishment emblazoned on your front door welcoming visitors to your home.
